A Season for Thankfulness

Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes that there was a “time and season” for everything. In the life of the follower of Christ, it is “always time” for giving thanks!

As we enter into another Thanksgiving season, we are confronted with a profound “opportunity.” While many will recognize Thanksgiving for a time of family celebrations, a wonderful feast of turkey and other treats, and of course a huge dose of football, as Christians, we are presented the “opportunity” to give testimony where our greatest thanks should be offered…to the grace and goodness of our God.

When we consider the many blessings of our lives, true thankfulness requires that we look beyond the mere material blessings of life to those things that hold eternal qualities. Our greatest and richest blessings lie in our personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and those whom He has given us to live and serve among.

I wonder what would happen if each Sunday School class, Life Group, or other Small Group ministry throughout the month of November began with a member or teacher giving a testimony of “thanks” to God for something He has done in his/her life or the life of someone he/she knows. Who knows, it might even spill over into the worship service.

We teach that God is good. We challenge our classes to believe that God is able to help us in our times of need. He has been working in the lives of our people. “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!”

Praying for God’s blessings upon you and your church,

Jim
